Of Preaching Styles and Churches

It is so interesting to travel to Southwest Virginia and hear the change of preaching style. Tosh and I attended a church service this morning and the gentleman was OK but he just took each part of the verses and went over them. He didn't bring anything out of it really and we found ourselves longing for more "teaching" and "practical" life application. So for those of you at LBC -- be THANKFUL for the teaching/preaching style of Pastor Michael.

The other thing the guy said that bothered me was that God took revenge upon Pharoah and his people by drowning them in the Red Sea. It just sat wrong with me. Mainly because God doesn't exact revenge on anyone-- only His righteous judgement and justice according to His great plan and purpose.

All through the service we never saw the pastor and when they said they had a guest speaker we thought the Pastor was just out of town. In the last five minutes of the service the guest speaker was encouraging the congregation not to worry that God would send them a new Shepherd soon -- then we realized they didn't HAVE a pastor. So we are kind of unsure about the church. Initially I felt right at home and they even had the same welcome packet and cards that LBC has. But the not having a pastor thing sort of made it feel uncertain.

There is still a few other churches we want to attend too. Thankfully Tosh is off every Sunday except one in November so we can continue to pray and visit around the area for a church.

Hey Brandi,
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Have a good night.
